Three Events And A Wedding!

Hot on the heels of the announcement that Burnham Market is to hold and Advanced class in 2002 is the news that event organisers, Emily Thompson and Alex Lochore, have revealed their engagement.

The Advanced Event will take place on Good Friday, March 29th 2002 - the ideal pre-Badminton warm-up. The course is being upgraded from the already inspiring CIC** to advanced standard by leading course-builder Hugh Lochore over the next two months, which, combined with the excellent going at Burnham Market is sure to make the event very popular.

Many of the world's top event riders found their way to Burnham Market for the Autumn Event last year and the organisers are hoping that the advanced class will attract significant additional numbers. The venue is particularly popular with riders to its demanding but fair course, well-drained land and professional organisation.

"This Advanced Class has been organised at the request of British Eventing and is in addition to our existing Spring and Autumn events," explained Alec. "They were concerned at the lack of scheduled Advanced Classes - especially in the run-up to Badminton - and asked us if we could help."

"We anticipate a very high level of entries as this is the first Advanced class of the season and one of only three planned before Badminton. Due to excellent drainage we have never had problems with the course from waterlogging and riders can be assured that, whatever the heavens throw at us, we will be running!"

"The Advanced class this year will not detract from our intention to build a new Advanced course which will be launched at our Spring 2003 event."

This is the second time Burnham Market has come to the rescue of the sport. Following the chaos caused to so many fixtures by last year's foot and mouth epidemic Burnham ran its Spring classes in the autumn, giving many competitors a much needed outing.

The other big date on the Burnham Market calendar this year is November 9th. Alec and Emily have decided to wait until the end of the season before tying the knot and jetting off somewhere fantastic for their honeymoon!

This makes it a pretty full year for Burnham Market, with three events and a wedding to organise in addition to the ongoing development of the Eventing Centre of Excellence in North Norfolk.
