GERMAN WINS LARGEST GRAND PRIX OF 2001 SEASON

WELLINGTON, FL - March 1, 2001 - German Equestrian Team Member, Markus Beerbuam rode the 11 year old Dutch bred mare, Leena to victory in the $25,000 Tommy Bahama Challenge Cup Friday at Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club.

Beerbaum bested a field of 67 horse and rider teams, the largest Grand Prix of the 29th annual Cosequin Winter Equestrian Festival. Germany's own Beerbaum was fault-free over the jumping course in 70.133 seconds, edging the number two ranked American Invitational rider, Chris Kappler of Pittstown, NJ into second place. Kappler, aboard the 9 year-old Dutch-bred, Korina finished less than 3 100th's of a second behind Beerbaum in 70.306 seconds. Third place went to last years winner of this event, Todd Minikus of Loxahatchee, FL, riding Oh Star, who clocked in at 72.384.

The Tommy Bahama Palm Beach Open continues through Sunday at Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club, with show jumping action daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
