NDSA Announces International Competition to be Held at Zada Enterprises, LLC Detroit Dressage

Kingston, RI—March 23, 2004—The National Disability Sports Alliance (NDSA) has announced that Zada Enterprises, LLC Detroit Dressage will host an international competition for riders with physical disabilities when it returns to Willow Ridge Farm in Williamston, MI, May 21-23, 2004.

The competition, sanctioned by the International Paralympic Equestrian Committee (IPEC), will provide an opportunity for riders from the United States and other countries throughout the world to compete early in the Paralympic year.

Riders will compete in a Team Test on Friday, May 21, an Individual Championship on Saturday, May 22, and a Musical Freestyle on Sunday, May 23. All classes will be conducted under IPEC rules in which riders are judged according to able-bodied rules, but allowances are made for compensating aids. For example, special reins that can be held in one hand would not be penalized.

The International Paralympic Equestrian Committee (IPEC) is the international governing body for equestrian sports for riders with disabilities. It is responsible for international rules, sanctioning of international competitions, and for Paralympic Games and World Championships. The National Disability Sports Alliance is the national governing body for equestrian sport for riders with disabilities.
