1st Int. Western Riding Show at Dortmunder Westfalenhallen - great show with superb sport and lots of spectators

Western riding as an attraction for spectators - this is the concept the Kampmann Pferdesport Festival in Bremen has been relying on for 17 years now. This year, the showmanagement of Dortmund Escon Marketing used this concept as well as the proven western show management of Carola and Ulli Vey for their renowned Dortmund Westfalenhallen Show. For the first time, there was a big international western riding show at Dortmund with attractive classes and good prizes, which was to become one of the main attractions for spectators.
At the end, Hubertus Funke (Escon Marketing) commented: "The western riding show at Dortmund fulfilled our expectations in every way: top sports and lots of spectators and media. Western riding will be part of our show next year. "

Dortmund was well accepted by the riders. More than 170 horse-rider-combinations had been nominated for this show, the largest classes being the reinings again. The main highlights were the CRI on Friday night and the western trophy night on Saturday.

Steffen Breug wins CRI astride Dragon Jac
Dortmund had the second of altogether three CRI in Germany this year. Here riders collect prize money for the qualification for the FEI Reining Masters in November. 28 horse-rider-combinations had been nominated. The winner was Steffen Breug astride Dragon Jac. The black stallion which was bred in the U.S.A. and had been shown mainly in Non-pro there, demonstrated fast turnarounds, fine speed control and long, smooth stops in marvelous fashion scoring 146.5 points. Volker Schmitt placed second astride Storm Warning Whiz (146 points) and third astride TT Joker Jac (144 points).
The CRI was run in combination with the qualification for the German Reining Championship. As there were only national competitors this time (due to the FEI rules which allow riders to qualify only in their own countries), the results of both classes are the same. In Dortmund, the following riders qualified for the German Championship:
Volker Schmitt astride Storm Warning Whiz
Alexander Ripper astride Solanoswarlee Boy
Birgit Bayer astride Drive By
Eberhard Simon astride Sweet Talkin Lena
Kai Nehring astride Tivios Sunshine
Enja Libor astride Spooks N Spirit.

Western Trophy Night attracts 2500 spectators
There were three trophies in the western trophy night: the NSBA Morrison Bronze Trophy, the NRHA Lawson Bronze Trophy Open the Eggersmann Cutting Cup with Jan Mapes Trophy. More than 2500 spectators had come to see the evening show - and it was really worthwhile!

For the second time in a row, Imagimotion won the NSBA trophy. The three-year-old sorrel by Barpassers Image was ridden by Hubertus Jagfeld. The stallion, which is owned by Sabine Gresens, is a real eye-catcher with wonderful movements and an especially fine jog. He also won the Junior Western Pleasure. Talk About Chip and Sophie Lerebour (FRA) became second. Sophie Lerebour later won the Senior Western Pleasure with a fine performance.

As Smart As Charly (owned by Juergen Kalischinski) with Daniel Schloemer in the saddle.

The most beautiful reining class was the NRHA Lawson Bronze Trophy with about half of the cometitors scoring 140 or more points. The winner was As Smart As Charly (owned by Juergen Kalischinski) with Daniel Schloemer in the saddle. As Smart As Charly was Americana Champion 2000 (ridden by Grischa Ludwig) and multiple Bronze Trophy Champion with Rudi Kronsteiner. In Dortmund, the stallion topscored 148.5 points with a super fast run with long stops, Nico Hoermann and Oak Express placing second and Volker Schmitt with Storm Warning Whiz and Rieky Young (NED) with Burnt Starlight placing third.
