The British Horse Society The BHS Makes Finding Livery Easier

The British Horse Society is making it easier for owners to find caring and efficient livery yards by displaying a list of approved establishments on its website.

"We now have more than 90 yards which have been approved under our new Livery Yard Scheme and over 40 more waiting to be added to the list," said BHS chief executive Kay Driver.

"Displaying them on our website takes us into the second phase of this scheme, which is to provide a nationwide list of establishments that have passed the very close scrutiny of our inspectors." Membership entitles proprietors to display a special green plaque.

The British Horse Society Livery Yard Approval Scheme was launched at the 2002 Royal International Horse Show and is still attracting up to 10 inquiries a day. It will be the subject of a 30-minute seminar at this year' s British Equine Event to be held at the National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh, on November 1 and 2.

"With more people than ever before taking up riding and horse ownership, livery is taking on greater and greater importance," says Mrs Driver. "Our aim is two-fold - to monitor and help improve standards and to make it easier for owners to find a yard in which they can have confidence."

Owners looking for a livery yard should visit the BHS website at www.bhs.org.uk or call Mrs Christine Doran on 01926 707700.
