USA Equestrian
Electronic Results On The Rise

On its 150th anniversary the Upperville Colt and Horse Show moved into the twenty first century by submitting results to USA Equestrian electronically, a first for Upperville and show secretary Jonathan Rabon.

Since December 1, 2002, over 420 additional horse shows have taken advantage of USA Equestrian’s electronic results option and earned over $18,000 in rebates on competition fees.

“Competitions can realize a short-term benefit when they qualify for the $50 rebate, but the long-term return is better service to our members,” reported Cheryll Frank, Director of Sport Data. “The new USAE database powers the website, so points, results and rankings are visible on the internet the minute the files are posted. Members can see their rankings change throughout the day, and point corrections can be performed and viewed while the member is on the phone. USAE staff still has to proof the data submitted by the shows for accuracy, but our long term goal is to move the rankings and results as close to real time as possible.”

Show secretary, Jonathan Rabon agrees. “I submitted results for the Atlanta Summer Classic on Sunday night and they were posted by Wednesday. There were a couple of errors brought to my attention by competitors, and we were able to have all that corrected via email. This is really great because the competitors can see their points and standings immediately.”

Frank continued, “We are working on some additional interfaces to make the secretary’s job easier, including a Member and Horse number verification system and a suspension list filter. We are also working closely with affiliates like the United States Dressage Federation and their software developers to facilitate these improvements.”

Instructions for submitting electronic results are available from the USAE Sport Data Department, Cheryll Frank 859-225-6980 or cmfrank@equestrian.org.
