Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series Leader Board Continues to Unfold Through the Month of July

Tampa, FL – July 31, 2002 –The 2002 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series saw 14 exciting member events in July with nine in the East Conference and five in the West Conference. The series kicked off in February and runs through November, culminating in the Series’ first-ever Year-End Championship to be held at the National Horse Show.

Charlie Jayne and Melbourne remain the leaders of the junior division in the East Conference, and Marilyn Little and Corrado still have a secure hold on to the first place in the amateur-owner division. In the West Conference, Andrew Ramsay and Lisa lead the junior division, while Catherine Boettcher and Cordella B sit on top of the amateur-owner division standings. For the first time this year, the Show Jumping Hall of Fame is offering separate series for amateur-owner riders and for junior riders.

East Conference – Junior Division
In July’s first East Conference competition for juniors, the combined Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Class at the Showplace Spring Classic II, July 3-7, in Wayne, IL, L. R Davidson of Chicago, IL and her mount Cinsational turned in the best junior performance. The pair placed second place out of a starting field of 14 horse-and-rider combinations.

That same weekend in Lake Placid, NY, Maggie Jayne aboard Jubulent, who currently sit in second place in the series standings, rode away with the win in the $10,000 Salamander Farm High Junior Jumper Classic at the I Love New York Horse Show, July 2-6. Randy Sherman of Pasadena, CA finished second aboard Caldero. Sherman currently sits in the sixth position in the West Conference.

In a combined class at the Merrill Lynch Hunter Jumper Classic, July 14, in Moreland Hills, OH, Kathryn Volk and Cordie were the highest placing junior pair with their fourth place finish in the class against a field of 20 horse-and-rider combinations.

In the Junior Jumper Classic held at the Manchester Summer Festival, July 10-14, in East Dorset, VT, Kenzie Snyder rode Aquarius to top honors over a field of eight horse-and-rider combinations. Derek Braun and Mandella, who currently occupy the fourth position in the series standings, finished in second place behind Snyder.

The following weekend in the $10,000 Junior Jumper Classic at the Manchester Classic, July 17-21, in East Dorset, VT, Randy Sherman rode Caldero to victory over a field of 11 horse-and-rider combinations. Derek Braun had another impressive finish in the series, finishing in second place with Mandella.

The same weekend in the combined Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Ledges Summer Classic, July 18-21, Maggie Jayne and Kinda Blue, who are second in the series standings, finished in first place topping a field of 14 entries. Finishing in second place behind Jayne was Melissa Orlick-Zbierski and Intersat Appache.

Taking the top four places in the combined Lamplight High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at Equifest I, July 23-28, in Wayne, IL junior riders proved a force. Maggie Jayne made her presence known by taking the top two places in the class. Jayne won the class on Kinda Blue and was second on Jubulent. Alison Flury riding Milos 2 and Erin Haas riding Mir finished third and fourth respectively.

Jennifer Urioste rode Casanova to victory in the combined Show Jumping Hall of Fame Junior and Amateur-Owner Classic at Turfway Classic Horse Show, July 24-28, in Florence, KY. Urioste also took the third place award with Riocochet.

After two second place finishes earlier in the month, Derek Braun earned the blue ribbon at the $10,000 Junior Jumper Classic at the Valley Classic, July 24-26, in East Dorset, VT. Braun rode Mandella to the win and continued his second place winning streak by also placing second with Golden Boy 6.

West Conference – Junior Division
Kate Gordon aboard My Boy Elroy, turned in the best performance by a junior rider in the Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Colorado Circuit Opener, July 3-7, in Parker, CO, when she rode to fourth place out of a starting field of 21 horse-and-rider combinations.

The following weekend, in the combined $5,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic held at the Rocky Mountain Classic Horse Show, July 10-14, in Parker, CO, Armando Hassey was the top finishing junior rider. Hassey placed fourth riding Pikeur, the horse on which he currently stands sixth in the West Conference.

In the combined Nutrena Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic held at the Oaks Blenheim National in San Juan Capistrano, CA, July 15-19, junior riders dominated the field. Shelby Water and Xstatic emerged victorious over the field of 21 horse-and-rider combinations. Nicole Albertson and Khomedian finished in second and Andrew Ramsay and Nighty finished third.

Armando Hassey had another impressive finish in the series riding Lou-Lu, the horse with which he currently sits in fifth place in the series standings, when he rode to the win in the $10,000 Junior-Amateur Jumper Classic at the Colorado Summer Classic, July 17-21, in Parker, CO. Katie Hendrickson and Pilar finished in second place.

Andrew Ramsay and Nighty were the highest placing junior horse-and-rider combination finishing in the sixth position in the Budweiser Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Oaks Blenheim International, July 22-28, in San Juan Capistrano, CA.

Amateur riders made appearances in eight of the nine Show Jumping Hall of Fame Classics throughout the month of July in the East Conference. To begin the month, Mary Moricoli guided her mount Juna to victory in the combined Hall of Fame Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic at Showplace Summertime II.

The same weekend in Lake Placid, NY, jumper competition proved fierce in the $10,000 Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the I Love New York Horse Show. With 38 horse-and-rider combinations entered in the class, Grushenka Sanchez and her mount Candy’s Best emerged victorious with Hilary Schlusemeyer and Let’s Dance Jil earning second place.

Cara Utermehle guided her horse Tandoori to the winner’s circle in the combined $7,500 High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Merrill Lynch Jumper Classic. Utermehle bested a field of 20 horse-and-rider combinations to win the blue ribbon.

Danielle Torano rode Von Pilot to victory in the Amateur-Owner Classic at the Manchester Summer Festival. Placing second in the class was Dee Thomas and Fild Fox.

The following weekend in East Dorset, VT, Mike Kennedy and Marco, who presently sit in third place in the series standings, topped the field of 20 horse-and-rider combinations to win the Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Manchester Classic. Vanessa Stevenson and her mount Fortunato, who are fifth in the series standings, finished second behind Kennedy.

The following weekend, Dana Waters guided Suerte to a fifth place finish, the highest placed Amatuer-Owner, in the $10,000 Lamplight High Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic at Equifest I.

Amy Van Houten rode Alma Cogan to a seventh place finish in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic at the Turfway Classic Horse Show. Van Houten was the highest placing amateur rider among the starting field of 24 horse-and-rider combinations.

The same weekend, Joy Carrier had a successful outing in the $10,000 Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Valley Classic Horse Show. Carrier rode her horses Shindig and Salvia Ferincia to the first and second place awards respectively.

In the Western Conference, the month began well for Gigi Hewitt and her mount Quidamselle as they won the Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Colorado Circuit Opener Horse Show.

The following weekend, in the $5,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, Emily Watson and Neatrine bested the field of 33 horse-rider-combinations to take home the blue ribbon. Another amateur horse-and-rider combination, Lorenza O’Farril and Horizon Du Halage, finished in second place in the combined class.

In the $5,000 Nutrena Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic held at the Oaks Blenheim National four amateur riders tied for third place in the class. Aurora Rangel de Alba and Cobra, Kandi Stewart and Careful 019, Molly Talla and Laudatius, along with Tracy Miller and Riverdance all tied for the third place award out of a starting field of 21 horse-and-rider combinations.

Steven Turilli and Lafayette Z were the highest placed amateur pair in the $10,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic at the Colorado Summer Classic Horse Show. Truilli’s finish was impressive in the large field of 36 horse-and-rider combinations.

To finish the month of July, Allison Lynch rode TJ’s Eagle to victory in the Budweiser Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic at the Oaks Blenheim International Horse Show. Marley Goodman finished second in the class riding her Cacique.

The Show Jumping Hall of Fame and Museum at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL was established in 1987 and formally opened in 1989. It was organized to promote the sport of show jumping and to immortalize the legends of the men, women and horses who have made great contributions to the sport. The Show Jumping Hall of Fame also conducts the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series, held under Grand Prix rules and specifications. The Series, which is sponsored in part by a grant from the National Horse Sports Foundation, holds classes at 51 horse shows across the country. It is designed to give amateur-owner and junior riders an opportunity to compete at higher levels and serves as a proving ground for many riders who aspire to someday represent the United States in international competition.

The National Horse Sports Foundation (NHSF) is a publicly supported charitable and educational organization whose purposes include providing financial and technical support for amateur equestrian programs for adults and children including therapeutic riding and competitions for the disabled
