Massaro Tops The Field In Pony Medal Championship

Megan Massaro, 14, of Summerfield, FL, riding the large pony Wait A Minute, was named Grand Champion of the 2003 Pony Medal Championship, held August 6, at The Andrews School in Willoughby, OH. The championship was held as part of the State Line Tack/USAE Pony Finals held August 5 – 8. The winner of the Pony Medal Championship received the Easter Sunday Memorial Trophy donated by Ms. Catherine A. Kaiser and Ms. Jennifer T. Pesko, a tack trunk donated by Oakcroft, and a Triple Crown Custom Cooler. The trainer of the 2003 Pony Medal Champion is Bibby Farmer.

Judges for the Pony Medal were Sue Ashe of Wellington, FL and Chuck Keller of Hagerstown, MD.

Competitors qualify to compete in this event by winning a blue ribbon or by accumulating 30 points in a USA Equestrian Pony Medal Class at a USA Equestrian sanctioned competition between July 2, 2002, and July 1, 2003.

Results are as follows:

· Champion: WAIT A MINUTE (Welsh/Quarter Horse: Cymraeg Creek – Top Flight) ridden by Megan Massaro
· Reserve Champion: POW WOW (Pinto) ridden by Sara Bryan of Statesboro, GA
· Third: HALCYON HAWTHORN (Welsh: Dorian Gray – Halcyon) ridden by Samantha Schaefer of Westminster, MD
· Fourth: ROSE CREEK (Welsh/Arab: Cymraeg Creek – Countess Rhozette) ridden by Chase Scott Boggio of Alpharetta, GA

· Fifth: PICTURE THIS (Welsh/Thoroughbred: Welsh Hills – Queens Acres Ruffin) ridden by Brittany Denton of Alpharetta, GA

· Sixth: TOY STORY (Welsh cross) ridden by Jennifer Waxman of Chagrin Falls, OH
· Seventh: OTTERIDGE BLACK HAWK (Paint cross: Forge Nimbus – Miss Bar Dee) ridden by Amanda Groher of S. Glastonbury, CT

· Eighth: DAPHNE – DOO (Welsh/Thoroughbred: Halcyon Sir Lancelot) ridden by Taylor Kain of Lakeworth, FL
· Ninth: WOODLAND’S BLUE VELVET (Welsh/Thoroughbred: Woodlands Velvet Rain – Woodlands Dark N Cloudy) ridden by Kelsey Silverstein of New Canaan, CT

· Tenth: SILHOUETTE ridden by Cate Billings of Tallahassee, FL
