Derby House Novice and Intermediate Final winners

ALEX Postolowsky and the diminutive Diplomatic Jack captured the prestigious final of the Derby House Novice Owner/Rider series in a fiercely fought event at Henbury Hall in Cheshire.

Carole Dennis riding Goulton Storm took the Intermediate section from 21 starters.

Now nine, Diplomatic Jack was bought unseen by Alex and her mother Sue six years ago.

At 15hh Diplomatic Jack is "a little horse with a giant heart" according to 18-year-old Alex who produced him herself.

Alex receives her award from Daragh O'Malley of Derby House.

"Last year we took the Pony Club Novice Championships and the East Anglian Championships. This year we competed in the Novice Championships at Gatcombe and we are aiming for success at Weston Park at the end of the season in October.

"I was over the moon to win and delighted with the sash and prizes. In fact, we were so proud Diplomatic Jack travelled home with the sash on."

The horse is now at intermediate level and has had three good runs this year.

"His dressage and showjumping are always good," adds Alex and "he is very nearly ready to step up to advanced events."

Alex, based in Glentham near Market Rasen is a member of Scunthorpe Pony Club and receives "great support from District Commissioner Lucille Robinson".

Carole Dennis receives her award from Paula Burrows of Derby House.

"The cross country course was much more technical than it was the last time I was here seven years ago," said Carole who was devastated when her horse Beckett II died at Auchinleck a few weeks earlier after getting a fence wrong.

"The win was a real morale booster especially as I took the direct route over fence 18, a tricky double which caught a lot of riders out."

The pair started on a good dressage score, picked up a few penalty time points across country, then went clear showjumping.

Carole from Thirsk qualified eight-year-old Goulton Storm at both Hexham and Aske earlier in the year. She bought the mare two years ago locally and has now upgraded to Advanced level.
