IAHYA President Hillary Hoffman Named USA Junior Equestrian of the Year

Hillary Hoffman, the president of the International Arabian Horse Youth Association (IAHYA®), has been named as the 2002 USA Junior Equestrian of the Year. Hoffman, 18, of Hastings, Minnesota, will be presented with the Ruth O'Keefe Meredith Memorial Trophy during the USA Equestrian annual meeting, January 15-19, 2003, in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Ruth O'Keefe Meredith Memorial Trophy was established in 1985 to honor a junior individual who exemplifies "exception talent, sportsmanship and dedication to the sport" and has made "outstanding contributions to equestrian competition." As a delegate on the IAHYA and IAHA Equitation and Working Western Committees, she has worked to improve the showing of these disciplines. Hoffman has also helped to create a smoother running convention as chair of the IAHYA Convention and Credentials Committee.

At the 2002 Youth Nationals, Hoffman excelled in the western disciplines. She was champion in Arabian Western Pleasure JTR 14-17, Reining Seat Equitation JTR 14-17 and Freestyle Reining JTR 14-17. She took reserve championships in Arabian Reining JTR 14-17 and Arabian Ladies Side Saddle Western JTR 17 & Under.
