C Spear Defeats Brigadoon 13-7 In Ylvisaker Cup Action Sunday At International Polo Club Palm Beach

WELLINGTON, Florida – C Spear scored five unanswered goals in a five-minute span en route to a 13-7 victory over Brigadoon in a 22-goal Ylvisaker Cup polo action Sunday at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

Leading 7-6, C Spear put the game away with its onslaught. Paco de Narvaez made it 8-6 on a breakaway with 2:20 remaining in the fourth chukker and patron Tommy Boyle tapped home another breakaway with eight seconds remaining.

C Spear didn’t slow down in the fifth chukker, getting two goals from de Narvaez and one from Chris Gannon in the two-minute span to take a 12-6 lead with 3:50 remaining. Boyle put the finishing touches on the game, scoring with 14 seconds left.

De Narvaez led C Spear (2-1) with six goals while Boyle finished with four. Matias Magrini scored two goals and Gannon had one for the winners.

American 10-goaler Adam Snow led Brigadoon (1-2) with five goals while Tiger Kneece and Brian Prichard added one goal apiece.

Boyle was named the game’s MVP.

In other games, Carlos Gracida scored eight goals to lead Catamount over Lechuza Caracas 13-10; Brandon Phillips scored seven goals, including the final two, to lift Old Pueblo past Crab Orchard 10-9 and 10-goaler Miguel Novillo Astrada scored nine goals to spark Bendabout over Isla Carroll 13-8.

The Ylvisaker Cup in named in honor of William T. “Bill” Ylvisaker, a polo pioneer who founded Palm Beach Polo and Country Club in the late 1970s and was elected into the Polo Hall of Fame in 1996. Ylvisaker, who has been involved in polo for some 50 years, has won numerous major polo tournaments, including the prestigious U.S. Open in 1972.

International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120th Avenue South in Wellington. From I-95, take the Forest Hill Boulevard exit and go west approximately 12 miles. Turn left onto South Shore Boulevard and go two miles. Turn left onto Pierson Road, travel about one mile and then make a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club is on the right. From Florida’s Turnpike, take Exit 93 (Lake Worth Road) and go west about six miles. Make a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club is on the left.
