The Bowmore Blair Castle International Horse Trials & Country Fair Bowmore Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Country Fair

July 2000

Organisers of the Bowmore Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Country Fair took the opportunity to view the challenging cross country fences of Scotland’s premier three-day event from horseback.

Mounted on Highland ponies from the Blair Castle Trekking Centre, organiser, Tim Hadaway, Secretary, Cathy Jackson and sponsorship co-ordinator Laura Binner, rode out onto the course to see how fence building was progressing and to inspect the new Irish bank and temple obstacles.

The event, which has become one of the most popular in the Scottish sporting calendar takes place from August 24th to 27th this year and include a spectacular Country Fair with attractions such as quad-biking, fly-fishing and archery.

The Highland ponies come from the Atholl Stud which was one of the first Highland pony studs in Scotland, while the trekking centre is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Used throughout the year, these ponies are just as at home carrying deer in the stalking season or tourists in the trekking season, which is now well under way.
