Local Day Riders Qualify for National Horse Show

New York, NY—October 11, 2001—The 118th National Horse Show, presented by Budweiser, hosted its Local Day at Overpeck Stables in Leonia, NJ on Monday, October 8. Champion and Reserve ribbon winners in the Children’s and Adult Hunter Sections qualified to compete in the Children’s and Adult Hunter Championship Challenge at the National Horse Show at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, November 4.

In the Children’s Hunter under 14 section, Heather Dobbs of Sussex, NJ, rode her Allegiance to victory with Alex Stathis of Essex Fells, NJ winning reserve on her Rise n Shine. In the Children’s Hunter 15-17 section, Ashley Marsh of Barrington, IL was champion on Momento, owned by Catherine Sheridan, while Kristen Fleming of Bozrod, CT, rode Castle Harbor, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Steven Seder to reserve.

In the Adult Amateur 18-35 section, Diane De Castro of Ridgewood, NJ rode her Another Affair to victory with Ashley Kay of Medford, NJ coming in second on her Inspired. Lisa Cudahy of Milwaukee, WI earned champion and reserve champion titles in the Adult Amateur 36-50 section on her Crimson Chill and Sports Page respectively.

The 118th National Horse Show, presented by Budweiser, returns to Madison Square Garden November 2-4.

The National Horse Show hosts hunter, jumper and equitation championships. The featured event is the $150,000 Budweiser Grand Prix of New York on Sunday, November 4. The National also features the $10,000 BET On Jazz Junior Jumper Grand Prix, the $10,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Amateur-Owner Jumper Grand Prix and the $100,000 National Horse Show Hunter Championshp.

The prestigious Maclay National Championship for the ASPCA Horsemanship classes begins on Saturday morning and concludes with its traditional final on Sunday afternoon. The National Horse Show Saddle Seat “Good Hands” Championship will also be a featured equitation championship at this year’s National Horse Show, taking place on Saturday afternoon.

Founded in 1883 at the original Madison Square Garden, the National Horse Show is America’s oldest indoor horse show, and a traditional fixture on the national and international sports and social event calendars. The National is America’s most prestigious year-end championship show, offering the country's top horses and riders a chance to decide the ultimate champions.
