Equine Student's Bid To Win Prestigious Award

An equine science student from Sheffield is hoping to become the winner of the prestigious Eqvalan Thesis of the Year Award following selection to attend the final judging phase at this year's British Equine Event held at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire on the 2nd and 3rd of November.

New graduate Lynne Uttley, 22, has also recently won a scholarship to continue her studies at Masters level at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire. She submitted her final year BSc (Hons) thesis to the Eqvalan award panel in July and hopes to follow in the 'hoof prints' of last year's winner, also from Hartpury College who won £500 and the chance to speak at the National Equine Forum in March earlier on this year.

The award's five finalists will give a fifteen-minute presentation to a panel of eminent equine industry judges at the British Equine Event and undergo an in-depth question and answer session. This year's Eqvalan thesis winner will be presented with their prize at a private ceremony during the weekend.

Now in its fourth year, the Royal Agricultural Society of England initiated award is designed to reward academic excellence within colleges and universities offering equine degree courses. Fifteen top institutions put forward their best equine student to be considered.

Rachel Williams, Research Co-ordinator and senior lecturer in equine science said, "Hartpury College is delighted to have a thesis go through to the finals of the Eqvalan thesis of the year. This is the third year that one of our students has been nominated, reflecting the high quality of student research and research at the College."
