The 120th National Horse Show Receives Support from Top Sponsor

Wellington, Florida – October 31, 2003 – Sponsors have stepped up to the plate to support the prestigious, upcoming 120th National Horse Show, which will take place at The Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington, Florida, from Wednesday, November 26 through Sunday, November 30, 2003. The competition at The National will include over 400 of the best horses and riders in the United States, showing in the equestrian disciplines of hunter, jumper, equitation, dressage and ladies’ side-saddle. The National is the culmination of a year-long qualification process.

Lexus will once again be the official and exclusive automobile sponsor and will present The National Horse Show Jumper Championship. At last year’s National, the Lexus exhibit was one of the most popular. And this year will be no different: spectators will be allowed to test drive Lexus vehicles in the Grand Hunter Ring – which will be transformed into some kind of obstacle course. Lexus will donate $1 to The Wellington Equestrian Alliance for every test-drive taken.

The top Palm Beach County newspapers, The Palm Beach Post and The Palm Beach Daily News (a/k/a The Shiny Sheet), are back as sponsors. The Palm Beach Post’s National Welcome Stake and The Palm Beach Daily News’ Adult Amateur Jumper Division will be amongst the most exciting classes.

Chesapeake Petroleum, a supplier of automotive petroleum products to car dealers and service centers, is sponsoring a couple of speed stakes as well as being the presenting sponsor of The American Grand Prix Championship.

Kilkenny Insurance, which has been a loyal sponsor of equestrian activities in Wellington, including The National Horse Show and The Winter Equestrian Festival over the years, is run by equestrians Laura and Michael Whitlow. Kilkenny will be sponsoring the Amateur-Owner Hunter Division (36 and over).

Bainbridge Companies, a developer of high-end apartment housing based in Wellington, is sponsoring the Adult Amateur Hunter Division. Richard Schechter, President of Bainbridge, is also an active equestrian.

The Village of Wellington will sponsor The National Pony Hunter Classic, always one of the most closely-watched classes by enthusiastic parents and friends.

Vanessa Symmons Redfern is sponsoring the regular working hunter division in honor of her late husband, William Barlow Redfern. Mr. Redfern was a well-known, amateur equestrian who passed away quite unexpectedly last season.

Other top sponsors include: Nordstrom, the exclusive department store soon opening at The Mall at Wellington Green; Plastic Surgery of the Palm Beaches; Lazcar International, Inc., an international equine air transportation company; Florida Coast Equipment, which will be providing farm equipment to The National; Brookledge Horse Transportation, one of the premier van transporters of horses on the East Coast; and Florida Coca-Cola Bottling Company, which will provide signage about The National throughout Wellington as well as National advertising on its trucks.
