BETA

BETA Field Officer Role Goes From Strength To Strength

THE BETA Field Officer role goes from strength to strength with growing membership of the association, and increasing awareness.

The new appointment was launched more than 18 months ago and was taken up by Norma Smithson who has scaled down her involvement in the last year, while Tricia Nassau-Williams was taken on to cover the South West and Midlands.

Speaking at the AGM Ms Nassau-Williams outlined her findings and results from her five months in office.

Said Tricia: "My objectives have included increasing BETA membership in the area I cover, to liaise with existing members in order to secure their continued membership by highlighting to them the benefits of their membership, and to provide information and support to potential and existing members.

"In the last five months I have collected and recorded the details of 130 businesses on the BETA database for my area.

"This has included making approximately 350 telephone calls and the posting of 40 letters to companies I could not access by phone.

"To date seven membership applications have been passed by council, two of these being trade membership, and a further six are awaiting approval, a remaining six are awaiting completion."

Tricia reported that 27 companies had been visited including potential and existing members and made a number of observations.

Said Tricia: "I have found that there is a definite requirement for a membership category that has criteria for those just entering the trade.

"It is disappointing to find that a number of companies are not displaying the BETA logo in store or in adverts, and they must be encouraged to use their membership and highlight to their customer why their membership of the industry's association is important to the consumer and trade alike."

Concluded Tricia: "I now believe that BETA is seen as an organisation which is more approachable for general queries and information, and it is there for both small as well as large businesses."
