Breeding, Managing, and Training Young Horses for International Competition Careers

International Breeders Conference 2003
Saturday 2 August
Parade of Young Stock and Auction
Sunday 3 August

Co. Clare, Ireland

Confirmed Conference Speakers and Parade Commentators:

Lt. Col. Gerry Mullins: Represented Ireland in showjumping at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. Won over 100 international showjumping classes. Twice National Champion and winner of many International Grand Prix classes. Now the leader of the Irish Army Equitation School and a world-famous trainer.

Gillian Rolton: Won Team Gold Medals in eventing for Australia at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. Won Individual Gold and Team Silver at the Asia Pacific Equestrian Championships. Now a selector for the Australian international eventing team and a world-famous trainer.

Jennie Loriston-Clarke: Represented Great Britain in dressage at the 1972, 1976, 1984, and 1988 Olympic Games. Placed 6th in the Alternative Olympic Games in 1980. Won the Bronze Medal at the World Equestrian Games. Now the Asian Games Dressage Coach for Malaysia and a world-famous trainer.

Dr. Christa Finkler-Schade: German expert on foal nutrition and management to avoid developmental bone disorders. Consultant to German studbooks and major stud farms.

Saturday Schedule:

Saturday morning will feature presentations and Q&A with the entire audience by all four speakers.

On Saturday afternoon each of the four conference speakers will go to a separate meeting room and be available to discuss with individuals and groups specific challenges you face breeding, managing, and training young competition horses. We expect that individuals most interesting in eventing horses, for example, will meet with Gillian Rolton while those most interested in learning even more about feeding and managing foals will meet with Christa Finkler-Schade. Attendees will be welcome to spend time with one or more of the speakers.

Sunday Schedule:

On Sunday morning there will be a parade of foals, yearlings, and two-year-olds owned by Morningside Stud’s network of breeders in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The conference speakers will take turns offering comments on the conformation, type, movement, and suitability of the young stock for competition careers and breeding.

Following the parade an auction will be held of some of the young stock presented in the parade.

Further details including conference, parade, and auction venues

in County Clare will be published in the summer of 2003.
