USA Equestrian
Werner Wins Breeders' Award

Judy Werner of Waterloo, IA, is the 2002 recipient of the USA Equestrian Ellen Scripps Davis Memorial Breeders' Award. The award was established in 1998 to recognize an individual who consistently breeds outstanding show horses and honors the role unique breeding enterprises have in the development and improvement of show horses.

Werner and her husband Roy own and operate Redwing Farm and have been the breeder's of several world champion American Saddlebreds. They stand Radiant Sultan, a top ten rated American Saddlebred stallion and sire of numerous world and reserve world champions, who will be joined in 2003 by Designed, a world champion bred by Redwing Farm and shown by Werner to his win at the 2002 World's Championship Horse Show. The farm has produced a remarkable number of show ring winners from a small broodmare band. Werner is currently a member of the USA Equestrian Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Saddlebred Committee, Drugs and Medications Committee, Hearing Committee, Planning Committee and many more. Not only has Werner made contributions to USA Equestrian, but has extended her reach by taking part in the Saddlebred industry through her servitude as the President of the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) from 1984 - 1992. Werner is also an active member of the United Professional Horsemen's Association and the American Horse Council. In 1998 her name was engraved on the Walter B. Devereux Trophy as the recipient of the AHSA Sportsmanship Award, awarded to those who have "exemplified the ideal of good sportsmanship through commitment, dedication, and service to USA Equestrian throughout his or her career."

Werner said, "I am very honored to win this award; especially since it is named after Mrs. Davis, who had such an impact on the American Saddlebred breeding world."

Werner will be presented the award at the Pegasus Dinner held during the USA Equestrian Annual Meeting, January 15-19, at the Marriott Griffin Gate in Lexington, KY.
