Select Sport Horse Sale

There will be a unique opportunity this January to purchase a quality sport horse just before the start of the Florida winter circuit. On January 24th and 25th, the Ridge Farm and Dobber Stables will present The Intercontinental Sport Horse Sales at the Ridge Farm in Palm Beach Point East in Wellington, Florida. This exceptional auction is fashioned after the Holsteiner sales in Germany, and is a type of sale seldom seen in the United States.

"This is a really nice way to present high class horses," said Nona Garson, owner of the Ridge. "The auction is coming at an opportune time, just at the beginning of the Florida circuit. Buy your show horse at the auction on Sunday and go to the horseshow on Wednesday."

The horses will all be high-caliber sport horses, primarily hunters and jumpers. This is a select sale. An elite panel of horsemen will examine horses submitted for the auction. They will select horses for the auction that satisfy their standards for confirmation and performance. In addition, a panel of veterinarians will pre-vet and x-ray all the horses and reject any horses they judge unsuitable for the discipline. People who want to have their own veterinarian exam a horse can do so prior to the auction.

There will be a mixed group of between 30 and 40 horses including stallions, geldings and mares, ages three and up. These select horses are the top-of-the-line and ready to show at all levels, from green broke through grande prix. Arnold Dobber will ship specially chosen horses from his farm in Holland for the auction; the committee will select other horses from the United States. Only a few horses will have a reserve price. Prospective bidders can view and try the horses at the Ridge Farm for 10 days prior to the sale. These quality horses are all ready to show and win ribbons in the Florida Winter Circuit.

The Ridge Farm and Dobber farms are patterning The Intercontinental Sport Horse Sales after large breed auctions such as the Holsteiner auctions in Germany or the Arabian auctions in Scottsdale. This sale will present horses of proven superior performance ability regardless of breed. Like the breed auctions, there will be a party and entertainment for the bidders on both days of the sale. At a lavish cocktail party for registered bidders on Saturday, January 24th, there will be a formal showing of the horses. Staff will ride the horses and demonstrate their abilities over fences and on the flat. They will individually present each horse to the assembled guests.

On Sunday, auction day, the Ridge will serve brunch to the assembled bidders during the sale. Successful bidders will be able to show their new horses that same week just down the road at the Nutrena/Western Hay Wellington Classic.

This event will be televised nationally and internationally. If you would like to join Triple Crown and Stadium Jumping as a sponsor, call Bryan Cytryn at (610)346-6658.
