Crab Orchard, Black Watch Register Narrow Wins To Stay Undefeated In Ylvisaker Cup Action Thursday At International Polo Club Palm Beach

WELLINGTON, Florida – Black Watch and Crab Orchard posted one-goal victories to remain undefeated and in first place in their divisions in 22-goal Ylvisaker Cup polo action Thursday at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

Nacho Figueras scored in overtime to lift Black Watch over Brigadoon 10-9 and Crab Orchard scored the three unanswered goals, including the game-winner by Julio Arellano, to rally past Texas Polo 11-10.

Black Watch (2-0) leads Division I and Crab Orchard (2-0) leads Division II.

Figueras, Facundo Pieres and Ignacio Astrada each scored three goals to lead Black Watch while patron Neil Hirsch added one goal. Tiger Kneece led Brigadoon (1-1) with five goals while Adam Snow scored three goals and Brian Prichard had one.

Arellano led Crab Orchard with seven goals, including five in the second half, and Memo Gracida scored two goals. Francisco Lanusse led Texas Polo (0-2) with four goals while Milo Fernandez-Araujo and Ruben Sola scored three goals each.

In other games, Mariano Aguerre scored nine goals to lead White Birch over Old Pueblo 12-7; Agustin Merlos scored eight goals to pace San Saba past Bendabout 15-11 and Alex Agote scored seven goals to spark Pony Express over Catamount 10-8.

The Ylvisaker Cup in named in honor of William T. “Bill” Ylvisaker, a polo pioneer who founded Palm Beach Polo and Country Club in the late 1970s and was elected into the Polo Hall of Fame in 1996. Ylvisaker has won numerous major polo tournaments, including the prestigious U.S. Open in 1972.

International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120th Avenue South in Wellington. From I-95, take the Forest Hill Boulevard exit and go west approximately 12 miles. Turn left onto South Shore Boulevard and go two miles. Turn left onto Pierson Road, travel about one mile and then make a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club is on the right. From Florida’s Turnpike, take Exit 93 (Lake Worth Road) and go west about six miles. Make a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club is on the left.
