NFU welcomes FSA food labelling investigation
The NFU has praised a survey by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) that spotlights the high levels of misleading labelling still prevalent in the UK food industry.
The survey reflects the concerns raised by the NFU in its response to the FSA consultation on the use of food labelling terms.
The NFU is particularly concerned about the misuse of the term “farmhouse” on food labels to imply a product produced on farm premises. This is particularly important to farmers who have diversified to add value to their farms by processing their own produce.

More Learning From Horses: Threats and Safety Zones
by Ron Meredith, President, Meredith Manor International Equestrian Centre
WAVERLY, WV--I was young and pretty cocky when I started working with horses. Back then, I figured that the first thing I had to teach a horse was that I was the top dog. Then it was the horse’s job to pay attention to me and do what he was told. Like a typical person, I was always thinking about the end result I wanted and jumping right to telling the horse what to do. If he didn’t do what I wanted, I’d go to enforcing my supposed authority and make him do it. The horse had to acknowledge me as the leader and understand that if he didn’t do what I wanted, there were going to be consequences.

FEI World Cup Jumping News: Almost Angot Steals The Show In Vigo.......
Eugenie Angot, sister-in-law of WEG team gold medallist Reynald Angot, created a real sensation when winning tonight’s FEI World Cup qualifier in Vigo, Spain.
The French lady rider had the best of the draw in the eight-horse jump-off and used it to full advantage when steering the 13 year old mare Cigale du Tallis across the line more than one second ahead of Brazil’s Bernardo Alves who had to settle for runner-up spot with Canturo.
It was a class full of drama with two competitors eliminated and another four choosing to retire as Spanish course-designer Avelino Miravales’ track took its toll. Please click here for further details

Think You Own A Trail Equine?
By SUSAN DUDASIK
How would you like to promote your favorite mule or donkey, and earn recognition awards just for trail riding? Both the North American Saddle Mule Association and the American Donkey and Mule Society have trail riding programs in which you can log the number of hours you ride and in turn receive certificates and/or patches for your accomplishments. But there’s also a new all-breed association strictly for trail riders, the American Trail Horse Association, (ATHA) which invites mule and donkey riders to join them in helping to promote the all-around trail riding equine. Realizing that often an equine used for trail riding was negatively labeled as “just a trail horse or mule”, the ATHA has set out to promote and recognize the true talents of these special equines. Therefore they have established the American Trail Horse Registry open to all breeds, colors, and sizes of equines. Registration is not based on bloodlines but performance. Their goal is to promote well-trained, dependable and willing equines that can meet the challenges of today’s trail rider.
