Major Development for Equine Welfare Centre

It has been announced today that the contract for the development of Hall Farm, Snetterton, the ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses) equine recovery and rehabilitation centre in Norfolk, has been awarded to May Gurney.

Comments Richard Felton, ILPH Estates Manager, "Last year the ILPH Council took the decision to rationalize our Norfolk operations in order to save money over the long term and to update and improve our facilities in the short term. This process involves the sale of Overa House Farm at Larling* and the development of the Hall Farm site."

Works will involve the construction of a brand new purpose built Visitors' Centre which will comprise a gift shop, café and a lecture room/viewing gallery looking down onto a new covered riding arena.

The farm will have its first purpose built veterinary, farrier and recovery boxes and there will be added stabling with the construction of an American barn providing 23 extra loose boxes. A washdown room, hay and straw barn, pony corrals and a crew yard, staff rest room, residential accommodation, offices for the Centre Manager and his supervisor complete the picture.

To allow easy access directly from the A11 May Gurney will also be building and part reinstating a tarmac surfaced road down to the new centre.

Works on the £2m redevelopment project are due to start on Monday 20 May with a completion date of 23 December 2002.
