Top Mare Bred To Irish Draught
Pinon Lilli, shown left ridden by Emily Cureton, continues to win.
How do you build a good breeding program?
Any one successful in breeding knows good mares are most important. That is why the owner of O'Leary's Irish Diamond was thrilled with the contract to breed Grand Prix mare Pinon Lilli. "We're thrilled," said Jim Leary. " I knew Lilli when Irish rider Damian Gardiner rode her to three Grand Prix victories including the $50.000 grand prix at Denver." She also won at Spruce Meadows and Indio. I thought she was one of the classiest mares in the world. " We have been quite selective in which mares we breed to O'Leary's Irish Diamond and have been criticized for denying a contract to some mares." said Leary. "But, when a foal turns out ugly onlookers don't ask the question who is the mare, they always ask who was the stallion." But more important is our goal to put top notch horses on the ground.
It has taken time to earn the respect, by owners of top mares, for O'Leary's Irish Diamond. Leary said he asked the stallion to perform and he has performed. "Why would the owner of a top performance mare want to breed to a stallion that hasn't proven he can perform?" he asked..

The Riding Tree: Relaxation
WAVERLY, WV--Before you can clearly communicate to the horse what shapes you want him to take at what gait and in what rhythm, you need to have control over your own body. You cannot simultaneously influence the horse's shape, gait, and cadence unless you are in the right position over his center of gravity to apply the right sequence of aids with the right degree of pressure and the right timing. To control your body to that extent, you need to have an independent seat.
Relaxation is the basic skill riders must master on the way to achieving an independent seat. It is the first of six skills that build on one another to create what I refer to in my classes as "the riding tree" because once students have mastered them, they have the necessary foundation to branch out into any specialized riding discipline they may choose. An independent seat is the strong foundation that allows a student to successfully ride and train a dressage horse or reining horse or higher level horse in any discipline.
Riders need to be relaxed both physically and mentally. Physically, all of the muscles should be relaxed and all of the joints should be loose. The ankle, the knee, the hips, the elbows, and the shoulders are the joints we think of first. However riders need to be aware of tension anywhere in their bodies such as their wrists or fingers, their neck or jaw. Scan your body frequently while you are riding for any muscle or joint that is tense.

Of the four regiments, the 9th U.S. Cavalry served for the longest period in the Big Ben country of southwest Texas - the worst part of the western frontier. They also were the premier participants in the Lincoln County Wars of New Mexico. They were instrumental in helping to retain the lands in the Indian Territory (present day Oklahoma) for the Indians, which included the five civilized tribes who were moved from the southeastern United States in the early 1800's. The 9th U.S. Cavalry received the largest number of Medals - of - Honor of the four "colored" regiments during the Indian Wars period.
Many of the great cattle drives in the American West were protected by the 9th U.S. Cavalry and, during their 26 years on the western frontier, the 9th U.S. Cavalry made it possible for Southern Pacific Railroad to become established and grow into one of today's major railroad carriers.

Condios Wins 1.50 Metre Class."Mother Nature" Has One Fence Down
Condios, the Holsteiner stallion owned by Morningside Stud, won the 1.50 metre class in Kolding, Denmark on Sunday 23 June with a fast double-clear performance. For a 7-year-old stallion, this was quite a performance. Even more impressive, however, was how Condios had to outwit Mother Nature to secure the victory.
As told by Henrik Steen Gundersen, Condios' rider, he and the horse had just landed after clearing the first part of a treble combination when a strong gust of wind began to topple the entire second element of the combination. With the rails and wings crashing down around them, Condios cleared the second fence without touching wood. Condios then put in an extra stride and cleared the third element of the treble combination. The pair went on to finish the course without penalty. The judges met, agreed that it was Mother Nature and not Condios that deserved the four penalty points, and confirmed Condios' double-clear round and winning time.

We are not just a Registry... We are an Association !!!
Welcome to a bright new future for all Trail Equines......
No longer is your "Trail Horse" grade, generic, or stock!
Or your registered equine... just based on it's bloodlines, instead of it's true proven abilities !
The American Trail Horse Association, Inc., was designed to meet the needs of today's Trail Rider. By providing identification, and registration, we provide proof of ownership and identity to equines that are registered of all breeds and those that cannot be registered purebred. But then, ATHA goes beyond that, by making owners PROVE their trail equines.
Think you own a Trail Horse?
By polling today's trail riders, ATHA has found out what they look for and need out of a true Trail Horse. With that information, ATHA came up with the 7 Stamps of Excellence Program. With this program, in conjunction with "Trail Horse Trials", owners can prove their trail horse's abilities to everyone and have these accomplishments "Stamped" on the back of their Trail Equine's registry papers! This way future and current owners have Proof of Ability that has been witnessed and proven.
