Burghley Accumulates Leading Show Jumpers

The Burghley Masterfoods Horse Trials at Stamford, Lincs. (4th-7th September) will play host to the top show jumpers in the country and one of the biggest show jumping classes this season when it puts forward a £20,000 prize fund for its invitation-only Accumulator class.

The class, the first major ‘pure’ show jumping class to be held at the world famous Burghley Horse Trials for 22 years, will be held in the Main Arena on Sunday, 7th September. The following have all accepted invitations to compete in the event, John Whitaker, Michael Whitaker, Robert Smith, Tim Stockdale, Di Lampard, Vicky Young, Lyn Van Heyningen, John Popely, Paul Barker, Nick Skelton, Scott Smith, Andrew Davies, Mark Armstrong and Will Funnell. Funnell’s wife, Eventer Pippa Funnell, will be hoping to scoop an even bigger prize in the Three Day Event by winning the $250,000 Rolex Grand Slam, the richest prize in Eventing’s history.

The Three Day Event, which is regularly voted ‘The Best Three Day Event in the World’, will reach its climax at around 1p.m. on the Sunday and this has, for the first time, allowed the organisers to put on a further exciting programme of classes and displays. In addition to the Accumulator, visitors will be able to enjoy Four-In-Hand Obstacle Driving and Celebrity Gymkhana Games as well as The Band of The Parachute Regiment and the traditional Parade of Foxhounds.

For those who have not visited the event before as well as the packed arena programme, you will also be able to take in the finest shopping of any outdoor show in the country, with over 300 carefully selected shops that sell everything from gifts to the ultimate equine accessories.

Attractive discounts are available for some tickets booked in advance and all accompanied children aged 12 and under enter the showground free of charge. So plan ahead, take advantage and book early to make sure you enjoy what promises to be the biggest and best Burghley ever. Separate tickets will be required for the Sunday afternoon performance.
