USAE Announces Leaders For South Pacific Memorial Award

Iron Spring Farm’s Consul (Nimmerdor –Waloniki, by Purioso) leads the mid-year rankings for the South Pacific Memorial Award in 2003. Consul is ranked 12th overall with progeny earnings of $63,818. Top earner among Consul’s six jumper offspring is his stallion son Judgement (Consul – Faletta, by Akteur), bred and owned by Mary Alice Malone’s Iron Spring Farm. Thoroughbred Aly Dark (Alydar – Moonlight Jig, by Jig Time) is ranked second due entirely to the $41,108.54 YTD earnings of Kenly Farms’ homebred Bradford. Ocean II, a gelded son of South Pacific out of the Ramzes daughter Renee, currently ranks third with progeny earnings of $37,297.18. Ocean II is owned by Joan Irvine Smith’s granddaughter Nathalie Cooper and his full brother Ocean I stands at The Oaks.

The South Pacific Memorial Award recognizes the top ranked U.S.-based sire of show jumpers and was created by Joan Irvine Smith of The Oaks, in memory of her flagship stallion South Pacific (Silvester – Kamera, by Cor de la Bryere). Inaugural winner in 2002 was Hamilton Farms’ Galoubet A (Alme’ – Viti, by Nystag), inarguably among the world’s leading sires of show jumpers including 3-time World Cup Champion Baloubet du Rouet.

The South Pacific Memorial Award will be presented in January during the Pegasus Awards Dinner held during the 2004 US Equestrian Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, CA, January 14 – 18, 2004. To be considered, a stallion must be based in the United States and at least 75% of the progeny earnings must be from offspring born in North America.
