Double Win for British Champions

British champions, Hampshire North (Jade Taylor, Craig Tordoff, Charlene Smith, Shayla McNulty and Gemma Green) and Sussex (Christian Jones, Alex Jones, Felicity Hotson Jones, Gemma Hawes and Andrew Gleadow), reigned supreme at the Mounted Games Association of Great Britain`s Home International competition, held at Carlisle Racecourse.

Five teams competed in each section - British champions, England North, England South, Scotland and Wales, at junior (under 17) and open level in the two-day competition.

In the junior competition Hampshire got off to a good start, comfortably winning the first session on a score of 38, their closet rivals were Wales on 33, with England South just 1/2 a mark behind on 32 1/2.

Session two saw the positions turned with Wales scoring 38 points, England North with 34 and Hampshire trailing on 27. Overnight scores were Wales 72, Hampshire 65 with England North on 63 1/2.

Sunday morning and session three saw Hampshire come into their own with a score of 41, nine points clear of Wales, and in overall scores Hampshire were leading with 106, with Wales two marks adrift on 104, and England North on 94 1/2.

The final session saw Hampshire score 44 from a possible 50 giving them the title. England North also had a storming session scoring 37 and push into the reserve up spot, with 131 1/2 points. Wales left in third with 128 points.

In the open competition Sussex were pushed the whole way by both England teams. After session one England South scored 38, with England North and Sussex on 37. In session two Wales came into the scene with a top score of 41, Sussex on 36 moved into a three point lead over England North.

Sunday morning saw England South win on 37, Sussex again just behind on 36, when in the final session they scored 35 to give them a overall score of 144.

England North and South both tied on 133, and in the run off a slip up by their second rider left the way clear for the South team to cruise into the runner up spot.
