The Horse Sense “Success” Series

Increase your horse knowledge quickly and easily while earning a Horse Sense “Success” Series certificate from Scottsdale Community College, Continuing Education. And do it all at home, at your convenience, online.

“Whether studying for your personal satisfaction, or to establish your credentials as a professional horse person, you’ll study with “celebrity instructors” who have proven records of success in the fields they teach,” says Zhara Dean, director of continuing education at SCC. “Until the internet,” Dean explains “it was virtually impossible to bring experts from around the nation to a single college and give one-on-one help to every student. Now we can do it!”

Anyone, anywhere can earn a Horse Sense “Success” Series noncredit certificate from SCC by completing six required courses and two of any eight elective courses. Samples of the courses, course descriptions, instructor biographies and quizzes can be seen at www.horsecoursesonline.com.

This equine studies program is unlike anything ever offered, Dean points out.

“We’ve selected core courses which establish a foundation for building a horse business, and we’ve selected elective courses to enhance a horse owner’s ability to provide superior health care,” Dean says. “And we’ve made the program affordable.”

Log on and study at home at your convenience. Start anytime. Take one course at a time or take several. Work at your own pace. No special equipment or additional books to buy. There is no completion deadline, but when you finish, your accomplishment is rewarded with the unique Horse Sense “Success” Series noncredit certificate.

All required courses—Training Performance Horses, Conformation and Selection for Performance, Nutrition for Performance Horses, Behavior Modification Techniques, Health and Disease Management, Bits and Shoeing—are online; so now the world can enjoy the prestige of earning a college noncredit certificate. Courses range in tuition from $75 per course to $200.

Elective online courses to choose from include: The Business of Making Money With Horses, Equine Sports Massage, Coat Color Genetics, Preparation for Competition, Legal Aspects of Horse Management, and three on-campus courses—Let’s Talk Horses, Emergency First Aid, and Making Money—an overview.

To register for any of the courses, call Scottsdale Community College at (480) 423-6305, and specify the course or courses in which you wish to enroll. Students will get a form with the first online course to be used to record progress toward the Horse Sense Success Series noncredit certificate, Dean said.

The certificate series will begin Jan 1, 2004, Dean explained. However, all students who have completed any previous on-campus or online courses will be awarded credit toward the “Success” series certificate.

With the development of the Horse Sense “Success” Series, Scottsdale Continuing Education now has the largest and most diversified online equine education program in the nation.
