ILPH “Unrideable Horse” Tops the British Novice in the South West

A horse that came to the International League for the Protection of Horses with the reputation of being unrideable has won the highest points in the British Novice Area 51.

Boxer, a 15.2 hh liver chestnut Welsh cob cross gelding, arrived at the ILPH in October 1996 with the “unrideable and terrified of men” tag on him.

After a short period of rehabilitation he went out on loan to Carol Dunster who lives near St. Austell in Cornwall.

Says Carol, “Basically all I tried to do in the early days was to stay on him, it was a nightmare. But with the help of Claire Rushwort, my trainer, Boxer started to improve and it’s really thanks to her that we are now on the affiliated circuit.”

Says ILPH Field Officer Jeff Herrington, “Carol is a perfect loanee. She didn’t expect a ready made horse and over the years has invested a lot of time and patience on him. I am glad to see that she is reaping the rewards she so richly deserves.

As Carol says, Boxer has loads of talent and as far as she is concerned “The sky is his limit !”
